Characteristics and production of Thermowood
The Haiku Wellness Sauna Cube is made from sustainably sourced Nordic Thermowood, procured from FSC-certified partners in the Baltic region, which guarantees outstanding insulation and remarkable durability.
In the process of thermal wood treatment, the wood is subjected to temperatures ranging from 180 to 230° Celsius in an oxygen-free environment. This significantly diminishes the wood's capacity to absorb moisture, while also depriving wood-degrading fungi and bacteria of their food source, thereby enhancing the wood's longevity. All wooden components of the sauna (excluding the bases, window and door frames, fascia boards, and outdoor patio boards) are crafted from Nordic Thermowood. The Thermowood treatment imparts a uniform brown hue to the wood, which will eventually turn grey like all other woods when exposed to UV radiation. Therefore, we advise applying a wood preservative stain to maintain its appearance.
